The short answer
No. It only sees the name of the app you are in, to pick the style. It never reads what is in the window.
What it sees
When you dictate, Perfect Dictation asks Windows one question: which app has the keyboard focus right now? The answer is a name, such as "Outlook" or "Slack", and it uses that name to pick the right style. In a web browser, it can tell which kind of site you are on, such as Gmail, so web apps get the right style too.
What it never sees
- The contents of any window: emails, chats, documents or web pages.
- Screenshots: it never takes any.
- What you type. See Is typing rhythm a keylogger?
- Your files, your camera or your location.
When it listens
Only while you hold the talk key, or while hands free is switched on. The pill on screen shows whenever it is listening. It never listens in the background, waiting for a wake word.
Rewriting selected text
When you use rewrite, the text you selected is sent to be rewritten, because that is the job you asked for. It is treated like your dictation: processed, sent back, and never kept on our servers.
