The short answer
No. Your audio is sent over an encrypted connection, turned into text, and then it is gone. We never write it to disk or keep a copy.
What happens to your voice, step by step
- You hold the talk key. Your PC records only while you hold it, or while hands free is on. Perfect Dictation never listens in the background.
- You let go. The clip is compressed and sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our service.
- It is turned into text. A speech engine writes down what you said, and a clean-up engine tidies it. The audio is held in memory only while this happens.
- The text comes back to your PC and is typed at your cursor. The audio is discarded. Nothing is written to disk on our side.
The engines that hear it
| Engine | Job | What it keeps |
|---|---|---|
| Groq | Speech to text, and sometimes the clean-up | Nothing: zero data retention, no training |
| Cerebras | The clean-up | No requests, responses or logs of them |
| DeepInfra | Backup speech to text | Nothing stored to disk, no training |
| Fireworks AI | Backup clean-up | Held in memory only, never logged, no training |
Each engine's own policy says what it keeps. The privacy page lists them all, with where they run.
Is my voice used to train AI?
No. Nothing you say is used to train any model, ours or anyone else's. We do not sell data, and we do not share recordings with anyone.
What about clips waiting to send?
If you dictate while offline, the clip is kept on your own PC until it can be sent, then removed once your text is written. It never sits on our servers.
What we do keep
Counts only, so your account and the service work: how many words, how long you spoke, which app it went into (just the name), the language, the style and how long it took. Never the words, never the audio. See Do you keep my text?
