Is there a fair use limit on paid plans?

Paid plans include 40 hours of speaking a month, about two hours every working day. Only your speaking time counts, and nothing is cut off without warning.

The short answer

Paid plans include 40 hours of speaking a month, about 2 hours every working day, which is far more than almost anyone uses. Your account page shows how much you have used.

What counts

Only the length of the audio you record, added up across all your PCs, each calendar month (UTC). Rewrites, redos, snippets and syncing do not count.

Why there is a limit at all

Every second of speech goes to a speech engine that costs money. Unlimited plans stay affordable because nearly everyone uses a normal amount. The limit exists only for accounts that are shared between people, automated, or used as a transcription service.

What happens near the limit

We ask first. Past 40 hours, we email to ask how you are using it; usually there is a simple answer and nothing changes. Only an account that is clearly shared, automated or resold is slowed or suspended, and we tell you before anything happens.

Transcribing recordings

Perfect Dictation is for your own live dictation. Playing meetings, videos or other people's recordings into it is outside fair use. The full terms are on the fair use page.
